COVID-19 Response June Update

Komera, together with our generous supporters, were able to reach our community with food, psycho-social support, pads, and masks. Between April and June 2020, Komera has distributed 728 packets of sanitary pads to 91 Komera scholars, food support to 175 Komera families, face masks to 137 beneficiaries, and sanitizers to all its staff members to keep them safe from the virus. We have also used weekly messages and calls to support our beneficiaries psycho-socially.

Seeing Opportunities in Challenges

Angelique has been using her time during the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown to start a small business to meet the needs of her community! “After knowing that we will go back to school in October, I had flash backs in my mind of the things Komera staff used to tell us about how we should always use the chances we get and plan our lives with a plan B. I decided to start a small business instead of staying home doing nothing,” Angel said. She has also been encouraging other young women in her community and in the Komera program to stay active while they aren’t in school!

100 Pineapple Seeds

Fortunate's family's story began to transform when she joined other Komera parents and guardians in small savings groups. Using Komera’s business skills training, she chose to start planting pineapples that she’s able to harvest regularly and sell at the market to support herself and her family!
