A Celebration To Commemorate The Groundbreaking!
After breaking ground on our Leadership Center a few months ago, we are excited to share that the Komera team officially launched the construction site during a dedication ceremony held to celebrate this milestone and what it represents for the community.
On Tuesday, February 15th the new Mayor of Kayonza; Jean Bosco Nyemanzi joined the Executive Director Dativah Bideri Mukamusonera to officially launch the construction work and invite stakeholders to learn about the Center. Over 150 people attended the event including Komera secondary scholars, university graduates, and teen mothers. Also in attendance were Rwinkwavu local leaders, and community members who all rallied around the Komera team to share in the significance of this momentous event.
During the ceremony, Dativah presented Komera’s history, the vision, and strategy for future Center programs, with accompanying renderings of the space. In his address, the Mayor of Kayonza, who was the guest of honor, commended the vision of Komera and the important work that will be even more amplified in this space. He highlighted the key role that Komera is playing in building a safe space for women and the community to access education, counseling, health and other much needed services.
The event was also marked by speeches from Komera scholar graduates, and teen mothers who shared about their Komera journeys.
Many of our Rwandan Board of Directors also attended this long-awaited dedication ceremony, including our board chair Donatha Gihana. After numerous planning setbacks due to the COVID-19 restrictions. The team was extremely excited to finally celebrate this occasion that they’d been looking forward to!
We are also proud to highlight the contributions of some of our scholars who have taken on jobs at the construction site and are part of the team behind the progress that was celebrated.
