One Step Closer...

This past year has been a challenging one to say the least. We never imagined rallying to build a center in the middle of a global pandemic, but here we are. As we battle COVID-19 we know now more than ever that young women are need our help. As economies and livelihoods are decimated, as families are no longer able to afford to send their children to school, and as young women struggle to access the health services they so desperately need, we are committed more than ever to not just build back better but to build forward together.

At Komera, we believe that building our the Komera Girls Leadership Center will enable girls and young women to access the services they so desperately need. That being said, we ARE moving forward and laying the foundation to break ground on the Komera Girls Leadership Center in 2021.

In order to build a state-of-the-art center, it takes a LOT of preparation and groundwork. Over the past couple of months, the Komera team in partnership with Rwanda Village Enterprises and Bruce Engel Design, have done a deep dive on needs of the center which translated into detailed designs and foundational work.

We have invested in electricity and water at the site! That requires purchasing and putting up the poles which in Rwanda is an amazing undertaking!

Finally, we are committed to understanding our environmental and social impact at the site before we start construction. We have surveyed local crop shareholders and community groups to ensure that we are not encroaching on their own businesses. We are also currently in the process of completing geotechnical sampling and testing.

 As an organization, Komera has a track record of consistent commitment to deep quality and respect for the process. This center and the process of building it is no different. We must invest in our process in order to ensure that the center has a foundation to build from.

We currently have just over half of our goal pledged for the center, that means we are just over $250K towards our $700K goal! Let’s keep laying the foundation towards our future.
