Welcome Angie!
We’re so excited to introduce you all to Angie, our newest team member joining Komera! As our newest Communications Intern, Angie will be supporting our team in sharing about the work Komera is doing and stories from the field. It’s her goal one day to start her own non-profit in Ecuador that would focus on rural education equity.
What made you want to join Komera as an intern?
As an intern with Komera, I can advocate for gender equality and challenge social norms while working alongside women who share the same vision for social global impact. I believe in the importance of creating opportunities for creativity, innovation, and education for all women to become agents of change. I am excited to be a part of Komera where I could be a part of an international movement that acknowledges and uplifts the voices of young women through health, community development and education initiatives.
What is your favorite part of the Komera program or mission that inspires you?
I am inspired by Komera’s commitment and dedication to uplift Rwandan voices and create lasting change in education, health and career readiness. It takes a village to create change and Komera’s holistic approach is inclusive of all the voices of the Rwandan community. Komera’s actions, advocacy and programming is tailored to give women the tools and platform to succeed, one girl at a time.
A big piece of Komera’s mission is female empowerment through sport and health wellness. What is your personal favorite way to sweat and how do you practice self-care?
Self-care is an important part of my everyday life. Every morning I wake up and push myself to hit the gym. I set a goal for myself when I jump on the treadmill and push my body to reach beyond its limits. After my morning run, I grab a cup of coffee at my favorite breakfast spot to start my day. If I have extra time, I’ll pick up a pen and start journaling about my week. I empower myself through reading, writing, and running which makes me feel happy and healthier.
What is a fun, unique or weird fact about you?
A fun fact about me is I have visited 23 countries and I am obsessed with cats!
