Diane is Empowered!
Diane is a Primary 6 student in the Pathway to Power Program studying at G.S Rwinkwavu Primary School. At 16 years old, she is a bit older than her classmates, but this has helped foster her leadership skills in the program!
During the curriculum, Diane really enjoyed the lesson about Reproductive Health because she learned more about life skills, reproductive body parts and her own body and sense of self. She also learned about Child’s Rights and consent, very important topics for a girl her age. Since these lessons, Komera staff have noted that Diane has improved in taking care of herself, and more importantly, Diane has shared that she feels more empowered to care for special hygiene needs of her body, especially during menstruation.
“I am now confident to say my private parts in their names. This helps me to accept who I am as a girl and no one can lie to me because I know my body and how it works.”
What’s next for Diane?
Her goal is to become a teacher so that she can be a vehicle that passes on knowledge to the next generation! For now, she sticks to practicing teaching with the children in her neighborhood. She shares all she has learned from the program with them! We know she will be a source of inspiration and empowerment for many young women for years to come!
