Catch Up With Komera: July 2026

Looking back on July, we are so excited to share our many big wins plus our upcoming event, the Chicago Social!

2026 Uniform Drop

Komera In The Community

In partnership with Tailored for Education,  tailors from the Komera Teen Mom program and staff visited 12 schools across four sectors of Kayonza, helping over 1,200 students access brand-new uniforms to kick off the school year right.

Thanks to our close partnership with Kayonza District leaders and participating schools, we met our goal of reaching as many students as possible.

Our Programs Manager, Vestine, had this to say about her experience overseeing this project:

“During the distribution, local leaders expressed their sincere appreciation to Komera for its continued investment in improving access to quality education for vulnerable children. They acknowledged that this support is making a meaningful difference in the lives of families and strengthening children's ability to attend school with confidence and dignity.

Parents who attended the distribution also shared their heartfelt gratitude. Many described the support as a significant relief and an important step in preparing their children for a successful academic journey.

In addition to distributing the school supplies, parents participated in a hygiene awareness session focused on keeping their children healthy. The discussion emphasized the importance of washing school uniforms regularly, ensuring children bathe regularly, and encouraging daily toothbrushing to promote good health and school readiness.

We are grateful for the strong collaboration with the district, sector, grant partner - Tailored For Education, and school leadership, whose partnership made this milestone possible. Together, we are helping create opportunities for children to thrive through quality education.”

Scholar Spotlight: Vestine

Our Scholar Spotlight of the month is Komera Alumna Vestine, who recently graduated from the African Leadership University with a Bachelor of Science in Software Engineering with First Class Honors.

Before putting in hard work at the African Leadership University, she joined Komera in 2019, where she completed Form Six in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Entrepreneurship with high grades from FAWE Girls School - Gahini.

Here is some advice she has for her fellow Komera scholars and global Komera family: "To every Komera student: never underestimate the opportunity you have. Dream bigger, work harder, and remember that your background does not define your future."

Coming from a family of five, she has not only made her family proud but also our entire team! Congratulations once again, Vestine, your future is bright!

Chicago Social 2026!

“From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Komera, for believing in me before I believed in myself. I will always be grateful.”

What’s Up Next?

The Chicago Social is 2 months away, and tickets are live NOW!

On September 18th, join us for a night of fun, friends, and fundraising for Her Education. Her Health. Her Future.

This year, with the guidance of our amazing hosts David and Janu, we are setting out to raise $125,000!

And we know with your help, we can go above and beyond for the girls in Rwanda.

As our scholar Vestine so beautifully put it, "Your background does not define your future." Every uniform delivered, every scholar mentored, and every ticket purchased for our Chicago Social helps write a new chapter for the young women and girls of Rwanda.

Thank you for believing in the Komera scholars and their limitless potential. Here’s to making next month even brighter!
